JOB TITLE: Inclusion Facilitator
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
A. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Under the direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with the NSACL’s mission and vision, the Inclusion Facilitator is responsible for family leadership, support, family advocacy, and facilitation of programs.
B. NATURE & SCOPE
The Inclusion Facilitator reports to the Executive Director. The successful candidate will work with individuals and families along with members of family committees and networks. They will liaise with other NSACL staff, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Department of Community Services, Department of Health and Wellness, Labour and Advanced Education, and other community and government agencies.
Additionally, they will facilitate our Life Transitions: School to Community Inclusion program and may develop and facilitate additional programs in the future. Approximately 40% of this position will focus on the Life Transitions program, with 60% spent on a variety of family support tasks and research. These allocations are approximate only, as workflow can change depending on organizational requirements.
C. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Build relationships with family support networks across Nova Scotia
Develop and maintain family support networks both in person and with online platforms
Track family supports requested and provided
Attend family support events to learn about new resources
Provide advocacy support to families and individuals
Provide advice and support to NSACL staff and others in the provision of advocacy support to families
Empower and educate families to be good advocates for themselves
Identify gaps and barriers affecting families and regularly bring forward this information to the Executive Director for provincial public policy advocacy purposes
Identify and link families to provincial networks and services
Liaise with schools and community organizations connected to Life Transitions participants
Recruit youth participants for Life Transitions program
Review/Adapt/update learning modules and materials Plan and facilitate weekly Life Transitions sessions with youth
Lead team meetings with participant support teams
Maintain participant files
Education & Communication
Contribute information for our social media platforms, website, and newsletter
Research and develop training materials for families and others who support people with ID
Research & Data Collection
Maintain family data tracker
Develop a comprehensive knowledge database of the services and supports available in the region(s)
Research current options for housing in Nova Scotia, alternative models being used and/or developed in Nova Scotia and other jurisdictions
Stay apprised of best practices for inclusive education, employment, and housing.
Participate in work-related training and development opportunities as required
Conduct research to support policy review/changes
May require some travel within Nova Scotia
Other related duties as required
Some evening and weekend work required, including one regularly scheduled evening per week
The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality
The ability to use current technologies such as word processing, e-mail, and social media
Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
The ability to prioritize work
The successful candidate will need:
Post –secondary degree or diploma with a focus on Human Service, such as Social Work, Child and Youth Study or disability supports
Previous experience working with persons with an intellectual disability and families
Excellent communication skills including written and oral
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Must have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle
